Michael Martel has been practicing law since 1985. In that same year he undertook the pro bono representation of a wounded Guatemalan fleeing civil war with his wife and three small children who were seeking asylum in the US. Over the next seven years his practice concentrated in criminal defense and civil litigation with his immigration caseload continuing to grow. From 1992 until 2003, he was a partner in the Boston immigration firm, Ross, Martel and Silverman.

Over the following eighteen years he headed his own firm located in Lynn and Boston representing thousands of foreign nationals with their family-based immigration cases as well as those facing removal proceedings. Mike has been a mentor attorney through the American Immigration Lawyers Association for more than twenty years. He is also a long-time member of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild and the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys. He contributes his time and experience as the volunteer legal advisor to the accredited representatives of the nonprofit community agencies, East Boston Ecumenical Community Council and the Agenica ALPHA, which is associated with the Leon de Judah congregation in Dorchester. Mike is a graduate of the Lynn Classical High School and earned his B.A. from the University of Washington and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. He is fluent in Spanish.
